Have you ever wondered what would happen when you change your relationship with food?

So let us begin with asking ourselves “What is my relationship with food”?

What are my beliefs about food?

What were my family habits when I was growing up?

Do you feel you always have to finish all the food that is in front of you even when you do not feel hungry?

Have you been dieting most of your life, but your weight is always up and down. Have you labelled food as good, bad or sins?

The fact is that food is everywhere around us. Food is a fuel for our bodies that gives us nutrients, energy and also offers a social experience.

So unless we change our relationship with food, we may continue struggling with our weight.

What can you do to change your relationship with food?

Firstly, forget diets. When you are dieting, you will have foods that you are not allowed to eat. Prohibitions always lead to cravings. So you may end up on binging on the forbidden food.

Secondly, be kind to yourself. Stop beating yourself up about what you ate yesterday. Remember your body listens and filling your mind and body with negative emotions such as guilt will make things worse.

Thirdly, learn to eat slowly. Bring your mind in the process. Set your table and make your meal looking great. Taste every mouthful and chew food properly. Be aware of the smell, texture, taste. Be mindful and trust the intelligence of your body. When you eat mindfully, your stomach will have the time to send the signal to your brain that you had enough.

Fourthly, whenever you think you are hungry, step back and ask yourself “Am I starving or am I trying to comfort myself?” Remember emotions need your attention not food!

Lastly, learn to accept yourself! You have your own individuality. Your body has its individual needs, its uniqueness, learn to listen. Learn to enjoy the food knowing it is providing you with all the goodness your body needs.

Finally, remember you are ENOUGH! Change your relationship with yourself, and you will change your relationship with food!
