However some people can also acquire them in adulthood.
Common fears & phobias include fear of flying, insects, snakes, needles and injections. Another fear of closed spaces, spiders, illness and death, fear of heights, etc.
The physical symptoms of fears and phobias can manifest as a racing or pounding heart, difficulty breathing, chest pain or tightness. Another person may experience sweating, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, trembling or shaking.
Furthermore the emotional symptoms may include a feeling of intense need to escape, feeling of overwhelming anxiety or panic. Also feeling you are going to die or pass out, feeling of losing control or going crazy, etc.
Only those who suffer from phobias and irrational fears can understand the challenges these feelings represents for them.
Perhaps you want to go with your family for a lovely holiday, and you need to get on the plane. And you cannot! You feel completely paralysed by your fear. It is also tough to explain those around you how hard it is for you to be in control of your emotions.
